Driver's License Reinstatement Information

Care Clinics, Inc. has been helping clients regain their driver’s licenses since 1981.  Care Clinics are specialists in the field of driver’s license reinstatement services.  If your driver’s license has been suspended or revoked for Driving Under the Influence (D.U.I.), Zero Tolerance, Underage Drinking/Possession, Vehicle Manslaughter, or Felony Conviction we can quickly assist you in regaining your driver’s license.  We can also assist you with any out-of-state DUI arrests or convictions which require evaluations, education, and/or counseling.  If you have previously attempted to regain your driver’s license but were denied Care Clinics can review the denial letter and advice you what steps you need to take to get reinstated.  Care Clinics can still help you even if we did not perform the evaluation or counseling services.  If you are currently at another facility and do not like the service being provided you can transfer your recommendations to Care Clinics.  Care Clinics is licensed by the Illinois Department of Alcohol and Substance Abuse (DASA) and approved by all county courts at all three of our locations in Aurora, Naperville, and Yorkville (A-1222-0003-A).

To begin the process of reinstatement a client must first have an evaluation.  The evaluation will consist of a review of your driver’s license record, prior alcohol/drug history, and an interview with state certified evaluator.

DUI Evaluation

If your arrest was due to D.U.I. there are five risk classifications which you can be assigned.  The risk classifications are Minimal, Moderate, Significant, High Risk Non-Dependent, and High Risk Chemical Dependency.  Each risk level has state mandatory criteria. Minimal Risk requires a client to have only one D.U.I. in lifetime, registered a BAC of .14 or below, and have no signs/symptoms of alcohol/drug abuse.  Moderate Risk requires a client to have only one D.U.I. in lifetime, BAC .15 to .19 or had refused/failed to complete chemical testing, and have no signs/symptoms of alcohol/drug abuse.  Significant Risk requires a client to have one or more D.U.I. arrests, a BAC .20 or more, and/or any sign/symptom of alcohol or drug abuse.  High Risk Non-Dependent requires a client to have three or more D.U.I. arrests within 10 years of the most recent DUI arrest and not have signs/symptoms of alcohol/drug dependency.   High Risk Alcohol/Drug Dependent would be any client who meets clinical criteria for a diagnosis of alcohol/drug dependency.  Each risk classification has state mandated recommendations.  Minimal Risk recommendations require a 10 hour DUI Risk Reduction Education Class.  Moderate Risk recommendations include a 10 hour DUI Risk Reduction Education Class and 12 hours of “Early Intervention” which is similar to counseling.  Significant Risk recommendations include a 10 hour DUI Risk Reduction Education Class, 20 hours of substance abuse counseling, and a continuing care plan (follow up recommendations).  High Risk Non-Dependent or High Risk Chemical Dependency recommendations require 75 hours of substance abuse counseling and a continuing care plan.

Non-DUI Evaluation

If your arrest was due to Zero Tolerance, Underage Drinking/Possession, Vehicle Manslaughter, or a felony conviction you will need an “Investigative Evaluation.”  This evaluation is more narrative in nature and does require a corroborative interview with someone who knows you and your substance use history.  The recommendations can include “no recommendation,” alcohol/drug educational class, alcohol/drug counseling, and/or “other” recommendation.

Care Clinics can also provide treatment needs assessments, evaluation updates, continuing care status reports, and referrals to attorneys that specialize in driver’s license reinstatement.
